What You Will Do
As a representative of Government Jobz listed opportunities, your primary role involves creel sampling. You will interview marine anglers to collect data on fishing effort, harvest rates, and species composition. Key duties include:
- Collecting biological samples (scales, genetics, and lengths) from salmon, halibut, and rockfish.
- Recovering coded-wire tags from adipose-clipped fish.
- Communicating fishing regulations to the public professionally.
- Working outdoors in the stunning, remote temperate rainforest of Alaska.
Requirements & Qualifications
To qualify for this position through Government Jobz, candidates must meet the following:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent. (A Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries or Biology can substitute for experience).
- Experience: One year of technical field/laboratory experience in fish/wildlife research, or experience as a commercial fisher, guide, or trapper.
- Skills: Strong attention to detail, flexibility with schedules, and excellent customer service.
- Physical: Ability to lift 40 lbs and work in inclement weather on docks.
- Certifications: Valid driver’s license and CPR/First Aid certification.
