Role Overview & Responsibilities

As a Resource Protection Specialist (RPS) III, you will investigate complex violations of county codes, permits, and land use regulations. This lead role involves more than just field inspections; you will mentor subordinate staff, assist in policy formulation, and manage workload statistics for the division.

Key duties include:

  • Investigating land use and building code violations.
  • Preparing administrative search warrants and criminal citation complaints.
  • Coordinating with agencies like the Sheriff’s Department, District Attorney, and Fish and Game.
  • Presenting cases to the County Hearing Officer.
  • Evaluating project compliance with approved conditions.

Minimum Qualifications

To qualify for this position through Government Jobz, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: A combination of training and education in natural resource management, urban planning, environmental studies, or criminal justice.
  • Experience: At least two years as a Resource Protection Specialist II or equivalent in a public agency investigating building, zoning, or environmental laws.
  • Licenses: A valid California Driver License is required at the time of appointment.
  • Training: Completion of P.O.S.T. approved Penal Code 832 Level III reserve training before the end of the probationary period.
