The Role

The Associate Planner is responsible for professional, technical, and analytical duties involving land use and planning studies. This position specializes in project management, policy development, and ensuring compliance with environmental laws. Key areas of focus include the Environmental Justice Element and the update of the Planning and Development Code.

Essential Duties:

• Analyze complex planning matters including land use, traffic, and environmental impacts.
• Review major development projects for code and ordinance conformance.
• Lead project teams and supervise subordinate staff or interns.
• Conduct onsite investigations and facilitate community discussion groups.
• Prepare reports for elected officials and community organizations.

Education & Experience:

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning or a closely related field.
• Experience: Two years of professional planning experience.
• Substitution: A Master’s degree in Urban Planning may substitute for one year of experience. Additional years of experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
