The Role

This leadership position involves planning, supervising, and evaluating the Animal Services Shelter staff. You will implement operational goals, advise staff on shelter policies, and coordinate activities between the community and volunteers. This recruitment through Government Jobz will establish a six-month employment list for current and future vacancies.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and train shelter personnel in humane animal handling.
• Coordinate shelter activities with community volunteers.
• Implement changes to meet operational goals and ensure animal safety.
• Perform behavioral assessments and recognize symptoms of animal diseases.
• Ensure compliance with laws governing euthanasia and impounding.
• Maintain medical records and pharmaceuticals for shelter animals.

Minimum Qualifications

To apply for this role on Government Jobz, you must meet the following:

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience: 5 years of professional experience in an animal shelter, veterinary hospital, or humane society.
• Substitutions: College coursework in Animal Science (up to 1 year) or volunteer coordination experience (up to 1 year) may count toward the requirement.
• Physical Ability: Must be able to lift or carry up to 100 pounds.

Certifications & Special Requirements

• Valid California driver’s license.
• Complete Humane Euthanasia training within 6 months.
• Obtain a Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) within 90 days.
• Mandatory: Immunization against rabies must be maintained.
