Role Overview
Sacramento Fire Paramedics provide vital ALS (Advanced Life Support) and BLS (Basic Life Support) care. Unlike firefighters, this role focuses specifically on medical assessment, emergency transport, and community health. It is an advanced journey-level position reporting to the EMS Captain.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to 911 emergency medical calls and provide patient transport.
- Maintain controlled medication inventory and medical equipment.
- Complete accurate electronic patient care reports (ePCRs) under HIPAA guidelines.
- Perform station maintenance and public education duties.
- Assist with decontamination and comply with Cal OSHA safety standards.
Minimum Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Two years of Paramedic experience is preferred but not required.
Mandatory Certifications
- Valid California or National Registry Paramedic License (EMT-P).
- ACLS, PALS, and CPR certifications.
- Local accreditation with SCEMSA (within 3 months of hiring).
- Valid California Class C Driver License.
Other Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must reside within 35 air miles of the W-X/29th-30th Street interchange within one year.
- Must be clean-shaven when using respiratory protective equipment.
