Essential Job Duties

Your primary role involves overseeing the construction, maintenance, and repair of potable water and wastewater systems. Key responsibilities include:

• Planning, scheduling, and reviewing crew activities.
• Training staff and correcting technical deficiencies.
• Researching equipment quotes and managing division budgets.
• Performing confined space entries and ensuring Cal OSHA safety compliance.
• Operating heavy machinery like backhoes, loaders, and cranes.
• Responding to public complaints and acting as a technical resource.

Minimum Requirements

Experience & Education

• Option A: One year as a Utilities Services Worker III with the City of Modesto.
• Option B: Three years of journey-level experience in water/wastewater systems with lead worker history.
• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.

Licenses & Certifications

• Valid Class A or B Commercial California Driver’s License (within 90 days).
• Grade III Water Distribution Operator Certificate (State of CA).
• Grade II Water Treatment Operator Certificate (State of CA).
• CWEA Grade I Collection System Maintenance or Grade II Mechanical Technologist (Required at filing).

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

The job involves frequent lifting (up to 75 lbs), keyboard use, and sitting. You will work in both temperature-controlled offices and outdoor environments, including traffic zones and remote sites.
