Position Summary

As a Social Worker III, you will handle a difficult caseload requiring advanced casework skills. This journey-level position involves independent decision-making in Court Investigations, Emergency Response, and Child/Adult Protection. According to Government Jobz, you may also serve as a lead worker for lower-level staff.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Carry complex social service cases requiring high technical competence.
  • Investigate reports of suspected abuse and protect vulnerable children and adults.
  • Develop and implement social treatment plans with cultural sensitivity.
  • Provide crisis intervention and counsel families with specialized needs.
  • Prepare court reports, case narratives, and safety plans using automated systems.
  • Maintain strict client confidentiality following NASW Code of Ethics.
  • Testify in court and collaborate with law enforcement and community agencies.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following patterns through Government Jobz:

  • Pattern 1: One year of full-time journey-level social work experience as a Social Worker II in an IMS county.
  • Pattern 2: Two years of full-time social work experience AND 30 semester units (including 15 in social/behavioral sciences).
  • Pattern 3: A Bachelor’s degree and 24 semester units of a Master’s program in Social Work or Counseling AND 12 months of experience.

Necessary Knowledge & Skills

  • Principles of individual and group behavior.
  • Laws and regulations governing public welfare and social welfare trends.
  • Interviewing techniques and crisis intervention protocols.
  • Signs and dynamics of abuse and mental illness diagnoses.
  • Socio-economic conditions and public assistance programs.

Examination & Selection Process

The examination is a Training & Experience Evaluation (Weighted 100%). You must score at least 70% to be placed on the eligible list for Amador County. As reported by Government Jobz, the eligible list remains active for 12 months. Spanish bilingual skills are considered an asset.
