Position Overview

As a Social Worker Supervisor I, you will plan and organize the work of staff involved in Adult Protective Services, In-Home Supportive Services, and Child Protective Services. This is the first level of supervision, focusing on coaching, mentoring, and reviewing the casework of Social Workers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervision: Oversee Social Workers and support staff, ensuring high-quality service delivery.
  • Case Management: Review and approve court reports, case plans, and reports of abuse.
  • Collaboration: Work with law enforcement, district attorneys, and community partners.
  • Crisis Intervention: Handle sensitive cases and defuse hostile situations when necessary.
  • Policy Interpretation: Explain regulations and program rules to staff and the public.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following patterns to qualify through Government Jobz:

  • Pattern 1: 3 years of full-time experience as a Social Worker II in an IMS county (1 year of graduate work in social work/counseling can substitute for 1 year of experience).
  • Pattern 2: 1 year of full-time experience as a Social Worker III in an IMS county.
  • Pattern 3: 4 years of full-time experience in social work case management.

Requirements & Skills

Candidates should have extensive knowledge of:

  • Principles of supervision and mentoring.
  • Laws governing public social services and the NASW Code of Ethics.
  • Signs of abuse, psychopathology, and substance abuse dynamics.
  • Computer systems and Internet research for case tracking.

Examination Process

The selection process includes a Training & Experience Examination (weighted 100%). You must score at least 70% to be placed on the eligible list for Amador County. Once tested, you cannot retest for six months. If you have foreign transcripts, they must be evaluated before submission.
