Summary of Duties

As a Social Worker V at the Office of the Public Guardian, your primary responsibilities include:

  • Assessing the health and welfare needs of wards through interviews and service provider coordination.
  • Managing complex cases involving physical, behavioral, and mental health issues.
  • Developing and modifying treatment plans while monitoring ward progress.
  • Testifying in court hearings statewide and submitting annual guardianship reports.
  • Conducting community outreach and training on guardianship alternatives.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Education

Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, including at least 12 semester credit hours in social sciences (Social Work, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology, etc.). You can find similar educational requirements for other roles on Government Jobz.

Specialized Experience

Requires 3.5 years of professional social work experience. This includes conducting assessments, implementing treatment plans, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams. For certain roles, a “Supervisory Aptitude” must be demonstrated through past leadership or specialized training.

Substitutions Allowed

  • Bachelor’s (Social Work/CJ): Qualifies for SW II or 6 months experience.
  • Master’s (Social Work/CJ): Qualifies for SW III or 1.5 years experience.
  • Ph.D. (Social Work/CJ): Qualifies for SW IV or 2.5 years experience.

Important Compliance & Requirements

PREA Law: In accordance with Federal Law, applicants must pass backgrounds regarding sexual abuse and harassment, as this role involves contact with detainees in various facilities.

Non-Qualifying Experience: Clerical support, eligibility determination for benefits (food stamps/medical), or general vocational counseling without social work theory application will not count toward the experience requirement.
