Job Description & Responsibilities
As a Fire Telecommunicator I, you will serve as the first point of contact for emergency medical and fire services. Primary duties include:
- Receiving and evaluating emergency and non-emergency calls.
- Dispatching fire suppression units and ambulances using Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD).
- Providing life-saving EMD instructions before help arrives.
- Operating multi-channel radio systems.
- Handling after-hours public works and utilities calls.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Typing speed of 35 net words per minute. You can test at Typing.com or Official-Typing-Test.com.
Certifications (Required within 6 months of hire)
- Valid CPR Card (AHA BLS-C or equivalent).
- IAED EMD Certification.
- San Joaquin County EMS Dispatcher Accreditation.
Skills Needed

Physical & Special Requirements
This role requires sitting for long periods, constant use of keyboards, and the ability to work 12-hour shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays. Applicants must pass a background check, drug screen, and medical evaluation.
