The Role & Responsibilities
As the Supervisor, you will organize and direct a team of inspectors responsible for the oversight of residential and non-residential building and grading construction. You will act as the technical subject-matter expert for staff and the public.
- Leadership: Supervise, train, and evaluate Building and Grading Inspectors.
- Code Expertise: Interpret and apply complex electrical, plumbing, mechanical, fire, and accessibility codes.
- Conflict Resolution: Mediate disputes between contractors, developers, and inspection staff.
- Quality Control: Oversee the review of complex building plans and conduct investigations for new construction projects.
- Inter-Agency Coordination: Collaborate with city departments and partner agencies to ensure compliance with County regulations.

Minimum Qualifications
This recruitment is limited to current permanent Contra Costa County Merit System employees. Candidates must meet the following through Government Jobz standards:
- Experience: 4 years of full-time building/grading inspection or code enforcement with a public agency (including 1 year of supervision or 2 years in a lead capacity).
- Education: High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Licenses: Valid California Driver’s License.
- Certifications: ICC or equivalent certifications in Residential (Building, Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical) AND Commercial Building construction.
Selection Process & Timeline
Candidates must pass a Virtual Oral Board Assessment (Weight: 100%) tentatively scheduled for January 30 – February 5, 2026. Top-scoring candidates will proceed to departmental interviews in late February.
