Minimum Qualification Requirements Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university, featuring at least twelve (12) semester hours in accounting or auditing. Experience: One and one-half (1.5) years of professional accounting or auditing experience, which may include teaching university-level accounting. Non-Qualifying Work: Clerical bookkeeping, machine operations, general business owners/office managers who merely supervise without handling technical work, and tax jobs not applying GAAP will not count toward professional experience. Substitutions Allowed Substituting Experience for Education: You may replace the degree requirements on a year-for-year basis using: Professional accounting or auditing experience. Professional analytical or administrative experience, provided you have completed twelve (12) semester credits in accounting or auditing. Responsible experience managing general journals/ledgers, preparing balance sheets and financial statements, reviewing transaction discrepancies, or preparing operating budgets. Substituting Education for Experience: A Bachelor’s degree with twenty-four (24) semester hours in accounting subjects substitutes for a half (0.5) year of experience. A Master’s degree in accounting substitutes for two (2) years of experience. A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Certificate qualifies you for both Education and Experience needs for levels I through V.
